Victory in Jesus

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10 (NIV) Our victory is in Jesus.

My grandmother, a woman of God and a woman of strong conviction. Growing up I loved to sit at her feet and partake of her wisdom. She would use sayings like, ” there is nothing new under the sun.” Later I discovered she was quoting the bible book of Ecclesiastes. She found victory in the word of God. Her life was an illustration for our family. Her truth was, a quiet temperament, trust God; live victoriously in Jesus.

Deuteronomy 20:3-4 (MSG). 3 “He’ll say, ‘Attention, Isreal. In just a few minutes you’re going to do battle with your enemies. Don’t waver in resolution. Don’t fear. Don’t hesitate. Don’t panic. 4 God, your God, is right there with you, fighting with you against your enemies. Fighting to win.” We serve the same God today that kept and protected Isreal. In deed, we have increased power, we are covered by a new covenant, the Blood of Jesus.

Therefore, before the battle begins, we already have victory. 1 john 4: 4 (NKJV). You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is the world.“ Further, 1 John 5: 4-5 (NIV). continues, “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world-even our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

Subsequently, when we cannot see God at work on our behalves, He remains our operative, 13 It’s in Christ, that you once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. 14 This signet from God is the first installment on what’s coming, a reminder that we’ll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life.” Ephesians 1:13-14 (MSG).

Psalms 138:7-8 (NIV). “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me. The Lord will vindicate me; your love, Lord, endures forever—do not abandon the works of your hand.” We are the works of God’s hand and our victory is in Christ Jesus. He is the Beginning and the End; the Alpha and Omega. He is concerned about the details. He knows our outcome before any sign of trouble.

Our triumph is in God.  “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore, we will not fear, even though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling… 6 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be shaken; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.” Psalm 46:1-3, 6 (NIV). We should not rely on our own fortitude, especially when we have an all knowing and powerful God who gives us victory.

Therefore, “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:5. (NKJV).

In a popular hymn Dorothy Norwood and Alvin Darling wrote, “Victory is mine, victory is mine, victory today is mine. I told Satan to get thee behind, victory today is mine.” The only victory Satan has is our victory, if we surrender it.

Finally, Jesus says, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be kept safe. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they might have life and have it to the full.” John 10: 9-10 (NIV). Jesus is our shephard and we are His victorious sheep.
